Family Liaison Volunteers
These volunteers work directly with our families. One volunteer is assigned to each family as the primary point of contact. Though Director Susan Bowers sets up services for each family, it is the family liaison volunteer who makes sure the family’s needs are being met. We ask volunteers to contact the family at least once per month. Research shows that knowing someone is out there thinking of them helps patients to more effectively weather their journey through cancer. Therefore, emotional support is also part of the job, depending on what the family prefers. We always try to match families with volunteers who can best serve them. We provide training for our volunteers on how to handle grief within families and how to best work with families, including specific talking points for initial conversations.
Special Events Volunteers
We are always in need of volunteers to organize and staff our special fundraising events. These events include golf tournaments, wine walks, and most importantly, our Annual Helene Foundation Gala.
