Meet Michelle

Clinical Researcher in Oncology

Listen as Michelle tells you about her amazing family and her struggle with cancer as a single, working mom trying to pay the bills and continue to get the treatment she needed.

Shawdae

Shawdae is the mother of two young children. She is a breast cancer warrior! The Helene Foundation is helping with monthly gas cards, so she can get to her treatments and appointments. We are assisting with childcare costs for her children, as well as having Schwan’s Meals delivered directly to her home.

Dominique

Patricia is a single mom of 3 children who is battling breast cancer. The Helene Foundation is providing monthly meal delivery, diaper and wipes, gas cards to assist with transportation costs and monthly Wal-Mart cards to help with household costs and clothes for her children.

Sarah

Sarah is a mom of a teenager who is battling a brain tumor. The Helene Foundation is sending Schwan’s Meal deliveries directly to her home, and at her request, UBER gift cards since she can’t drive. We also help with monthly Wal-Mart gift cards. Her vacuumed quit right when we received her referral, and that was stressing her out, so we purchased a new one for her.

Fran

Faith is a newly single breast cancer warrior on top of being a mom of 4 children. The Helene Foundation is covering the cost of childcare for her daughter, as well as house cleaning with laundry service, gas cards and monthly Wal-Mart gift cards.

Kora

Kora is dealing with a thyroid cancer diagnosis. With 3 children, cleaning the house was an overwhelming task, so we were able to take that off her plate with bi-weekly house cleanings. Her family also loves to receive bi-weekly Schwan’s Meals deliveries directly to their home. We also send monthly gas cards to help offset the cost of transportation to medical appointments and treatments.

April

In addition to being a mom of 10, three of those living with her now, April has been diagnosed with cervical cancer. Her husband recently started a new job after being out of work for a bit, so their budget was tight. The Helene Foundation helped with monthly Wal-Mart gift cards to help with the cost of food and essentials for her family. April doesn’t have anyone to watch her children while she attends treatment, so the Helene Foundation paid the fees for a drop-in daycare near her treatment facility. We also helped with monthly gas cards.

Meet Eileen

Stay at Home Mom

Eileen’s life revolved around her three boys until her world turned upside down. Hear from Eileen, her husband and her boys about their daily fight against cancer and how Helene made a difference.

Heather

Heather is a mom of two children who is battling breast cancer. The Helene Foundation is sending monthly Food Lion gift cards to help with grocery costs, along with her BP gas cards to offset the cost of trips to treatments and appointments. With two growing children, new clothes were needed for the changing seasons—not a problem! We sent gift cards to Old Navy and Target for some fun online shopping!

Arteesia

Arteesia is the mom of one child and fighting breast cancer. The Helene Foundation is sending monthly Wal-Mart gift cards to help with food and essentials for her growing child. We are in the process of setting up bi-weekly house cleaning, in addition to sending monthly gas cards.

Carolyn

Carolyn is the mom of one teen aged daughter and is a breast cancer warrior. Schwan’s Meals hit the spot for their family since her daughter could pop the meals into the oven and not have to worry about dinner! We are sending monthly gas cards and helping with the entry fees for her daughter’s horse shows, so that fun hobby can continue!

Priscilla

A tragic event has a way of making some feel special. You see love pour in from all around you; people wanting to help you get over your greatest hurdle. I was so fortunate to have so many that were willing to do whatever they could to help me win this fight… one of them: The Helene Foundation. I repeatedly told Susan I didn’t want any assistance as I knew there were so many other moms out there that didn’t have the network of people that I had beside me. I did not want to take a service from someone that could use it. And, in Susan fashion, she explained to me the reason why the Helene Foundation wanted to help… to give me the gift of time. Time with my son. What greater gift is there? In my mind… none! The foundation has provided a house cleaning service so I can have more time with my little guy. These cleanings twice a month have been a true life saver. I get to focus on him instead of chores. When I was tired during chemo my energy was given to him and not vacuuming. The Helene Foundation has given me the ability to stay “Mom” to my son which is truly my most important role. Please know I am thankful for each and every one of you for supporting this amazing foundation and moms like me. I can honestly say that the help the Helene Foundation has provided has made this shit storm of a cancer diagnosis and treatment easier on me and my son.
